Magnesium Fluoride - MgF2
Magnesium Fluoride, a durable material resistant to mechanical and thermal shock, is widely used for prisms, windows and lenses from the vacuum ultraviolet to the infrared region of 7.5 microns.
As a birefringent material, MgF² is an efficient polarising element in the ultraviolet region. It transmits well into the VUV region to the hydrogen Lyman-alpha line (121nm) and beyond. Magnesium Fluoride is ideally suited for UV optics and is excellent for Excimer laser applications.
